Is a standard roof strong enough to park a car under?
Yes. For everyday vehicle, truck, boat, and trailer coverage in mild-debris areas, a standard roof on 14-gauge or 12-gauge framing protects against sun, rain, and weather. We size the leg height and anchors to your vehicle and site.
When should I upgrade from a standard roof to vertical?
Upgrade to a vertical roof when the site genuinely calls for it: heavy snow, lots of tree debris, or structures over 36' long where panel drainage and longevity matter. Otherwise standard is the value pick — especially now that vertical pricing has risen.
Do I need a permit for a standard carport in California?
Permit requirements depend on the structure, placement, foundation, and jurisdiction. The customer handles permits and coordinates required inspections. Norcal Carports can coordinate pricing from A&A Engineering when engineering is required.
What size carport do I need to park under?
Plan for at least 2 feet of width beyond your widest vehicle for door swing. A single car typically fits a 12'–18' width; two vehicles 20'–24'. See the sizing matrix above for common footprints.
Do you pour concrete or do foundation work?
No — Norcal Carports does not perform concrete or any foundation work. We provide site-appropriate anchoring (concrete, asphalt, or ground anchors) but do not install foundations. See our foundation requirements guide to prep your site.
