Northern California Conditions

Northern California includes a wide range of environmental conditions that affect how steel structures should be designed and configured. A structure appropriate for one region may require different framing, roof orientation, anchoring, or engineering considerations elsewhere.

Norcal Carports focuses on structures configured around actual site conditions and intended long-term use, not generic one-size-fits-all kits. We consider everything from Sacramento Valley heat to Sierra snow.

Structural Integrity Matters

A steel structure is only as reliable as the system supporting it. We focus on long-term functionality, not generic dimensions.

Structural Factors

Frame gauge, leg spacing, bracing, and anchor configuration vary based on Northern California climate regions.

Foundations

Installation available on concrete slabs, gravel, asphalt, or ground with site-specific anchoring.

Engineered Plans

Structural calculations and professional engineering provided for local NorCal building permits.

Weather Ratings

Buildings configured for valley heat, coastal wind, and high-elevation Sierra snow loads. High snow load engineering can significantly increase structure costs.

Site Conditions

Terrain access and vehicle clearance requirements are evaluated for final structure placement.

Material Grade

High-tensile galvanized steel and professional-grade roof panels designed for industrial-scale longevity.

Critical Questions Answered

Do I need a permit for a carport in California?

Yes, in most California jurisdictions, a building permit is required for any permanent structure. Norcal Carports provides engineered drawings specifically designed to meet your local county's requirements, including snow load and wind speed specs, which helps speed up the approval process.

What size RV cover do I need for my motorhome?

We generally recommend a minimum width of 12ft-14ft and a height at least 2ft taller than your RV's highest point, including AC units. For standard motorhomes, a 14' to 16' height is common. Always measure your RV with all slides out to ensure internal clearance if you plan on using it while covered.

What is the difference between Regular, Boxed Eave, and Vertical roofs?

Regular roofs use horizontal panels with rounded corners and are the most economical. Boxed Eave looks like a traditional house roof with horizontal panels. Vertical roofs run the ridges from the peak to the eaves, allowing snow and debris to slide off easily. We highly recommend Vertical roofs for any building over 24' wide or in snow-prone areas.

Which gauge steel frame should I choose: 14ga or 12ga?

14-gauge is the industry standard frame. 12-gauge is thicker and stronger, offering a higher tensile strength and a longer warranty. If you live in an area with high winds or heavy snow, 12-gauge is the superior choice for structural integrity.

How should I prepare my site for installation?

Your site must be level to within 3 inches across the entire footprint. We recommend a concrete slab, but we can install on asphalt or level ground with appropriate anchors. Ensure there are no underground utilities in the area, and clear a 3ft perimeter around the site for our crews to work.

What color options are available for my carport?

We offer over 12 premium color options for the roof, trim, and sides. You can mix and match to complement your existing home or outbuildings. Our coatings are designed for high UV resistance to prevent fading in the California sun.
