Vertical Roof Systems

Vertical panel orientation improves drainage and reduces long-term stress from debris and water accumulation.

The Vertical Roof Advantage

In the metal building industry, the Vertical Roof system is considered the "top-tier" option. While it carries a slightly higher initial cost, the long-term benefits in maintenance and structural integrity make it a preferred choice for Northern California properties.

1. Superior Drainage

Standard roofs feature horizontal panels where the ridges run the length of the building. This can trap water, debris, and snow.

  • Self-Cleaning: Vertical panels allow water and snow to slide off the sides instantly.
  • No Pooling: Prevents the "standing water" issues that can lead to premature rusting in horizontal ridge systems.

2. Structural Reinforcement

To install vertical panels, additional steel "hat channels" must be installed across the trusses.

  • Increased Rigidity: This secondary framing makes the entire roof structure significantly stronger.
  • Snow Loads: Essential for high snow load regions, as it supports the panels against heavy vertical pressure.

3. Aesthetic & Integration

  • The Vertical Roof design features a peaked ridge cap and trim, providing a finished, professional look that often increases property value and matches residential shingles.

4. Requirement for Large Spans

We generally mandate vertical roofs for any building wider than 24 feet or longer than 36 feet. The sheer volume of water collected on large spans requires a vertical drainage path to prevent structural stress.
